The Maserati Mistral, introduced at the Turin Auto Show in 1963, marked a significant departure for the Modenese marque. Named after a cold northerly wind of France, it was the successor to the venerable 3500 GT and the first Maserati to be given a name rather than an alphanumeric designation. Penned by Pietro Frua, its elegant, flowing lines and large glasshouse presented a more modern aesthetic compared to its predecessors, solidifying its place as one of the most beautiful grand touring coupes of the 1960s. Underneath, it retained Maserati's racing-derived straight-six engine, available in 3.5, 3.7, and the most coveted 4.0-liter displacement, famously featuring Lucas mechanical fuel injection – a sophisticated system for its era. Only 828 coupes were produced through 1970, with the 4.0-liter variants being particularly sought after by collectors. This 1967 Maserati Mistral Coupe represents a compelling opportunity for a full restoration, having been under the same long-term ownership since 1979. This highly desirable 4.0-liter version is powered by its matching-numbers inline-six engine, complete with the distinctive gold-colored "Maserati" branded valve covers and Lucas fuel injection system. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a period-correct ZF five-speed manual gearbox, a testament to its sporting intentions, while front-wheel disc brakes provide stopping power. The car currently sits on 15-inch Borrani-style wire wheels, completing its classic GT appearance. This Mistral project offers the chance to revive a true icon of Italian grand touring.
