The Shelby GT, born from a collaboration between Ford and Shelby Automobiles, represented a thrilling return to form for the iconic nameplate in the mid-2000s. Following the success of the limited-production Shelby GT-H rental cars, Ford decided to offer a street-legal version, giving enthusiasts a taste of Shelby magic without the extreme performance of a GT500. Based on the S197-generation Mustang GT, the Shelby GT received a host of performance upgrades, including a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Package boosting the 4.6L V8 to 319 horsepower, a sport-tuned suspension with unique dampers and sway bars, and a short-throw shifter for its manual transmission. Visually, it stood apart with a unique front fascia, a hood scoop, racing stripes, and special badging, evoking the spirit of the original Shelby Mustangs. In 2008, only 2,214 units of the coupe were produced, all finished in striking Vista Blue with silver stripes, making it a distinctive and sought-after modern classic. This 2008 Shelby GT coupe, one of those 2,214 examples, has been with its current owner since 2011 and shows 100,969 miles on its 4.6L V8 engine, mated to a manual transmission. While it has accumulated mileage, it has been maintained with an eye toward originality, featuring new OEM Shelby-spec Ford Racing Performance Parts struts and springs installed recently. The car presents an excellent opportunity for cosmetic refurbishment, with the hood and front bumper showing clear coat and paint peeling, and the signature racing stripes faded, as detailed in the comprehensive photos. New Michelin Pilot Sport tires with less than 700 miles ensure it's ready for the road, offering a solid foundation for its next enthusiast owner. This Shelby GT offers the chance to own a piece of modern Mustang history, ready for a refresh to bring its iconic looks back to their former glory.
