Most road cars carry their engine. The F50 is partly built from it. Ferrari bolted the V12 directly to the carbon fibre tub, making it a structural part of the chassis, exactly as on a Formula 1 car of the period. Furthermore, that engine came from the same family as the unit that powered Alain Prost's 1990 Ferrari, reworked for the road to 4.7 litres and 520 hp. Moreover, Ferrari made no attempt to hide the consequences. Vibration, noise and heat travel straight into the cabin. Built for the company's fiftieth anniversary, the F50 was the closest thing to a Grand Prix car Maranello had ever sold to a private client. Only 349 were made. This example is finished in Rosso Corsa, the colour most closely linked to the car's racing origins. Furthermore, it carries Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming that chassis, engine and gearbox remain as the factory built them. For a car whose value depends so heavily on originality, that document matters. As a result, this F50 offers a buyer the reassurance that every serious collector looks for first. The F50 can run as a barchetta or with its removable hard top fitted. With the roof stored away, nothing stands between the driver and the V12 sitting a few centimetres behind the seats. The cabin is simple and functional, with carbon fibre in plain view and instruments designed to be read at speed. Furthermore, the gearchange through the open gate is precise and mechanical. Moreover, among the great Ferrari hypercars, the F50 remains the only one with a naturally aspirated engine taken directly from Formula 1.
