The C4 generation of the Chevrolet Corvette, launched in 1984, marked a radical departure from its Mako Shark-inspired predecessor. Sharper, more aerodynamic, and technologically advanced, it redefined the Corvette for a new era. By 1996, the final year of C4 production, Chevrolet sent the model off with a bang, offering the special Collector Edition. This wasn't just a trim package; it celebrated the end of an icon, featuring unique Sebring Silver paint, special badging, and an interior distinguished by embroidered seats. Crucially, 1996 was also the year the legendary LT4 engine became available, a significant upgrade over the standard LT1, delivering a robust 330 horsepower exclusively when paired with the ZF 6-speed manual transmission – a proper enthusiast's send-off. This particular 1996 Corvette Collector Edition Convertible encapsulates that swan-song spirit, showcasing the desirable 5.7L LT4 V8 paired with its original ZF 6-speed manual transmission. With 135,000 miles on the odometer, this Sebring Silver example presents as a driver-quality collectible that has been meticulously maintained, including a comprehensive mechanical overhaul in 2016 addressing common C4 wear items like a transmission rebuild, new clutch, Optispark distributor, water pump, and a fully restored suspension. Its clean black interior retains the distinctive Collector Edition embroidery, while the exterior has been enhanced with Grand Sport aftermarket wheels and rear fender flares, lending it an even more aggressive stance. Adding to its allure is the highly sought-after, color-matched removable fiberglass hardtop, transforming its character from open-air cruiser to sleek coupe. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a final-year C4 Collector Edition, boasting the potent LT4 engine and a desirable factory hardtop, ready for its next chapter of spirited driving.
