The Austin-Healey 3000, the quintessential British roadster, needs little introduction. Born from the collaboration between Austin and Donald Healey, the "Big Healey" lineage began with the 100 in 1953, evolving through the 100-6 before culminating in the iconic 3000. Introduced in 1959, the 3000 cemented its legend through a formidable presence in rallying, securing class wins at events like the Alpine Rally and the Monte Carlo Rally, thanks to its robust chassis and powerful six-cylinder engine. The MkIII, launched in 1963, represented the pinnacle of the model's development, offering the most refined experience with its burlier 2,912cc engine and a more luxurious interior, often referred to as the "BJ8" model code. Production of the 3000 ceased in 1967, marking the end of an era for one of Britain's most beloved sports cars. This 1976 Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII, showing 52,455 miles, embodies the enduring appeal of these classic roadsters. While the seller's description notes a 1976 model year, it's important to note the 3000's production concluded in 1967, suggesting a potential re-registration date or a typographical error. Regardless, this example presents as a meticulously maintained and significantly refreshed machine. It benefits from a recently rebuilt transmission, a newly installed long block engine and cylinder head, and a host of other new components including a convertible top, top cover, windshield, and tires. The braking system has been overhauled, the carburetors rebuilt, and a new coil fitted, ensuring it drives as well as it looks. The interior has also seen attention, with new dashboard upholstery and a desirable Moto-Lita steering wheel completing the classic cockpit. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a thoroughly sorted and highly presentable example of a true British motoring icon.
