The C3 Corvette, launched for the 1968 model year, dramatically evolved the Sting Ray's iconic "Coke bottle" silhouette into a more aggressive, curvaceous form inspired by the Mako Shark II concept car. For 1970, Chevrolet introduced the potent 454 cubic inch big-block, marking a significant step in the Corvette's muscle car era. While often associated with the chrome bumper glory days, the 1970 model year is particularly desirable as it retained the classic chrome front and rear bumpers, a feature that would change in subsequent years. This era also saw the introduction of the LT-1 small-block and the mighty ZR-1 package, cementing the C3's reputation as a serious performance machine capable of challenging the best sports cars in the world. This stunning 1970 Corvette Convertible, showing 85,600 miles, has recently emerged from an exhaustive three-year, frame-up restoration completed this year by Masterworks Automotive, with over $60,000 in receipts documenting the meticulous work. While not its original engine, the heart of this Corvette is a professionally rebuilt 454 cubic inch big-block, bored .030 over with new rods, pistons, cam, and valvetrain components. Power is sent through a modern Tremec 5-speed manual transmission conversion, enhancing both performance and drivability. The restoration extended to every detail, including new date-code correct glass, a new cloth soft top, a blasted and repainted windshield frame, polished stainless trim, and a refreshed interior featuring new carpet with Dyna-mat insulation, a new top dash pad, and premium leather seat covers. Modern conveniences include an AC system converted to R134a and four new 17-inch Year One Rally wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tires. This is a meticulously restored C3 Corvette, ready to deliver an exhilarating open-air driving experience with a thoroughly modern edge.
