The 1968 Mustang marked a pivotal year for Ford's pony car, refining the groundbreaking original while introducing key performance enhancements. Building on the runaway success of its predecessors, the '68 model offered a more mature design with a slightly restyled grille and side scoops, but its true significance lay under the hood. This was the year the legendary 428 Cobra Jet engine debuted mid-year, instantly cementing the Mustang's place in the muscle car pantheon and dominating drag strips across the country. While production numbers for genuine GT Cobra Jets were limited, the spirit of ultimate performance permeated the entire lineup, making the '68 a highly sought-after vintage for enthusiasts looking to capture that golden era of American muscle. This stunning 1968 Mustang convertible pays a vibrant tribute to that high-performance legacy, reimagined as a potent GT Cobra Jet tribute. Under the hood lies a formidable Ford crate 306 motor, boasting 10.5:1 compression and a robust 400 horsepower, mated to a period-correct close-ratio Toploader 4-speed manual transmission for an engaging driving experience. Power is sent to a stout 9-inch rear end with 3.55 gears and a Posi-traction differential, ensuring all that power makes it to the pavement. A frame-up restoration completed 15 years ago saw this Mustang refinished in a striking Atlantic Blue Metallic, a modern Ford hue that perfectly complements its classic lines, with only 3,000 miles accrued since. With a mere 60,155 miles on the odometer, this meticulously cared-for machine features a like-new interior, a power convertible top, modern Borgeson power steering, front power disc brakes, and Flowmaster exhaust, embodying the best of vintage style with thoughtful performance upgrades. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a meticulously restored and powerfully upgraded piece of Mustang history, ready for open-road enjoyment.
