Ferrari 550 Maranello (front)
ABOUT THIS COMMISSION There's a moment, walking up to a 550 Maranello nose-on, when the whole point of the car reveals itself before you've so much as touched the door handle. That long, unbroken bonnet - thrusting forward over a naturally aspirated V12, isn't styling for its own sake; it's the honest outward expression of Luca di Montezemolo's decision to put the engine back where a proper GT's engine belongs, up front, ending Maranello's 23-year run of mid-engined flat-12s. The four round lamps and the wing gills are a deliberate nod back to the Daytona and the 275 GTB , but there's nothing nostalgic about what sits beneath that skin: a 5.5-litre V12 producing 485bhp at 7,000rpm, feeding a six-speed manual through a chassis split 50/50 front to rear. Look at that bonnet for long enough and you understand why this car still gets called the best-driving front-engined Ferrari of its era. ABOUT THE ARTIST “Car Fine Art”, is how Dutch Photographer Thomas Boudewijn describes his work. “I love cars and especially their design. Cars are works of art. Subtle lines, smooth curves, angular shapes, beautiful details and materials defining a car and brand.” “The unique FDL Lighting technique (focused diffused lighting) gives me artistic freedom to create truly unique images and shoot ‘Art on Wheels’.” It’s a tribute to car designers. Using this unique lighting technique, Thomas manages to eliminate distracting reflections on a car and replace them with a silky smooth finish to really highlight the design. In addition to car photography, Thomas also is working as a graphic designer and food & lifestyle photographer in the coffee industry. Cars are a fixed element in his life. Shooting for a variety of clients, organising Cars & Coffee events and providing FDL Workshops. “I love to pass on my photography knowledge and experience to other photographers, helping them expand their skills and provide new inspiration.
